The Louisville Youth Orchestra (LYO) announced today (July 5, 2023) that Matthew Vanover will become the new Executive Director, effective July 5, 2023.

Matthew comes to the LYO with over a decade of experience in orchestra administration and music education and two decades in non-profit leadership. As the Executive Director of the Immanuel School of Music in Northern Kentucky, he helped grow a regional music program that serves over 700 students each year through private lessons and group ensembles. Matthew has also helped serve underrepresented communities by developing music education outreach programs that bring educators to schools without music programs or teachers.

His love of orchestras and youth arts education stems from his own musical journey beginning in community arts organizations. While an accomplished musician himself, Matthew is rewarded by the opportunity to scale his influence of large numbers of young musicians by leading and supporting music educators and directors.

“The Louisville Youth Orchestra’s Board of Directors is excited to welcome Matthew to the LYO family. His passion for music education and his proven experience in growing a youth arts organization will help the LYO meet the ambitious goals we have set for ourselves,” said Ben Keeton, President of the Louisville Youth Orchestra Board of Directors. “Our goal is to fuel the passion and growth of young musicians through extraordinary musical experiences. Matthew has the passion, energy and experience to help us build on the extraordinary history of this organization and provide this opportunity to more students across our region.”

Matthew will work alongside LYO Music Director Doug Elmore to provide an extraordinary musical experience for its members. “I am thrilled to welcome Matthew to the LYO,” said Maestro Elmore. “His leadership experience in arts administration, combined with his dedication to youth in music, are a perfect combination to help the organization continue to grow.”
