OPEN POSITIONS
PRESTO STRINGS INSTRUCTOR
This position is part-time, and includes approximately 60-90 minutes of weekly beginner strings instruction during the school year, along with basic administrative responsibilities to support the class and communicate with parents and school personnel. The Presto Strings Instructor is responsible for instructing weekly beginning Suzuki-influenced strings classes to 2nd-4th graders in an underserved elementary school. This includes working closely with the school to recruit and retain students and to provide a September info session. The instructor will also fit students for fractional-sized instruments owned by the LYO, manage inventory, supply reports to the Executive Director, submit instruments for repairs as needed, and lead at least 2 performances in the spring. The Presto Strings Instructor may also on occasion be requested to assist with regular LYO rehearsals or concerts, both behind the scenes or as a substitute instructor/conductor.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced music instructor who is comfortable on violin and at least one other orchestral string instrument, responsible, highly professional, energetic, and dedicated to the success and growth of each student. Music education or strings pedagogy background strongly preferred. Must be available one weekday afternoon to provide instruction at the assigned school. (These classes have typically taken place Tuesdays or Wednesdays immediately prior to the end of school and/or immediately after the school day ends.) We anticipate the assigned elementary school will be in the West or South ends of Louisville.
Presto Strings Instructor roles are contracted yearly based on grant funding with a salary of $4400 for the 2023-2024 season. To apply, please submit a cover letter and resumé to matthew@lyo.org by August 18.
