PRESTO STRINGS INSTRUCTOR

 

This renewable 6-month contract position is part-time, and will begin January 2023. The instructor leads weekly beginner strings instruction from 4-5 PM on Tuesday afternoons along with basic administrative responsibilities to support the class and communicate with parents and school personnel. The Presto Strings Instructor is responsible for instructing weekly beginning Suzuki-influenced strings classes to 3rd graders in an underserved elementary school in the South End.

 

Additional responsibilities include managing instrument inventory, supplying basic reports to the Executive Director, submitting instruments for repairs as needed, and leading performances. On occasion, the Presto Strings Instructor may be requested to assist with LYO rehearsals or concerts as needed and as availability permits.

 

The ideal candidate will be an experienced music instructor who is comfortable on violin and at least one other orchestral string instrument, responsible, highly professional, energetic, and dedicated to the success and growth of each student. Music education or strings pedagogy background strongly preferred. 

Pay for the 6-month contract is $477 monthly (an average of approximately $119 per class).

OCCASIONAL VOLUNTEERS

Parent and community volunteers directly support the Louisville Youth Orchestra through forward-facing and "behind the scenes" activities during rehearsals, performances, and sponsored trips. We often need help with setting up and taking down chairs and stands, collecting forms, or ensuring smooth transitions between activities. For most performances, we need help with tickets, programs, ushering, and merchandise sales.
