The Louisville Youth Orchestra offers an extraordinary opportunity for young musicians in our community. Each member receives nearly 125 hours of rehearsal with professional conductors, inspiring performance opportunities, and innovative programs. The cost of providing these opportunities averages approximately $1,500 per member each year.
The LYO strives, however, to keep membership fees as affordable as possible. Membership in the core programs is $495 per year with discounts for families with more than one member and with scholarships to make membership possible for those without financial means.
So where does the remaining money come from? Major support is provided by the Fund for Arts, the Kentucky Arts Council, special grants, and generous contributors. It's easy to see that programming would not be possible without this additional support.
The Louisville Youth Orchestra has met the Better Business Bureau’s 20 Standards for Charity Accountability and is a BBB Accredited Charity. Click here to view the LYO’s full charity report.

The average cost for one year of participation in LYO is $1,500. This amount covers costs such as music, rehearsal and performance hall rental, performance production, conductor salaries and scholarships. We pride ourselves on offering LYO membership at a very reasonable $495 - one of the lowest membership fees in the nation. This means we must rely on additional support to keep our organization economically viable. Your tax-deductible contribution goes directly toward providing a total musical experience for our members. <more information>
A scholarship fund is provided to support financially at-risk LYO members. A designated donation of $400 pays for one full year of membership for a deserving child. A designated donation of $600 pays for one full year of membership and one full year of private music lessons. Sponsors have their name (or their company's name) affiliated with the program and receive two free tickets to all concerts, one free CD of all performances, and a prominent listing in all programs for the year. Donations can be made online (above) or by contacting Melody Welsh-Buchholz, Executive Director, at (502) 896-1851.
Business donors can complete this form to support the LYO with your tax-deductible donation.
