| Eligibility. |
Membership in the LYO is open to young
musicians from age 7 to 21. There are nearly 350 members from 15 counties and
60 schools. |
| Requirements. |
Members must participate in their school
instrumental music programs and take private music lessons. |
| Costs. |
The annual membership fee is
$315 for members of the Symphony Orchestra,
Repertory Orchestra, Concert Orchestra, Serenade Orchestra, and
Percussion Ensemble. Membership is $300 for members of the
Presto! and Allegro beginning strings. There
are substantial discounts for families with more than one member. Scholarships for
membership and private music lessons are available and awarded on the basis of need. |
| Auditions. |
All members must audition each year prior
to placement. Entry is based solely on proficiency and not age. |
| Rehearsals. |
The Symphony and
Repertory Orchestras rehearse at the Youth Performing Arts Center.
The Concert Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble
rehearse at the St. Matthews
Pavillion. The Serenade Orchestra
is based in Oldham
County and rehearses at the
Oldham County Arts Center. (For

| Programs. |
Each orchestra has numerous performances
in a variety of locations each season. There are sometimes opportunities to work with
guest artists and to perform new compositions. (Please see our
schedule
for specific dates and times.) |
